Could also by Lyme—that makes them tired and achy. When ours had it, he would go outside and just stand there staring blankly. It’s treatable.

I would have her checked for parasites. I used to foster in college and found that the dogs always seemed hot and would pant profusely when they had parasites whether it be intestinal or in their ears like ear mites. When the parasites were gone they stopped acting like they were hot.

Awe, I bet she is a sweet dog. My daughter has a Shepherd mix rescue. It would be worth calling your vet and have a checkup and bloodwork. It sounds like something isn't feeling right to her. Dogs can't explain so it's harder to know what might have changed.

That was our first guess, but her behavior hasn't changed even when we've run the a/c full blast or when it's a cooler day.

I’d call the vet. Sounds illness related.

Is she hot?

Rescue dog is approximately 6 years old and has always been relatively low energy. But she used to spend her day napping near other people, enjoying finding the sunny spots and moving around as the sun moves, and bring in the kitchen hoping to lick plates if a person was eating. But in the last couple of months, she spends 99% of her time in the basement. She'll come upstairs when DH gets home because that's her cue that she'll be fed and she grudgingly goes out for two short walks. But otherwise, she's sleeping in the basement. During the week, that's where my office is, so she's not totally alone, but on weekends and evenings she no longer interacts with us. She's otherwise totally healthy.
