How tall and how much do you weigh? How many calories are you consuming? How active are you?

Sure, thanks. I'm already pretty strict and on an anti-inflammatory diet for other health reasons so diet is mostly wild fish, lots of greens, beans, vegan stuff, fermented stuff for gut health. No dairy except kefir. Have grass fed beef a couple times a month because I tend toward anemia. Have dessert once a week, and a vodka gimlet 1-2 times a week. (No wine because makes me pretty sick.) A treat for me would be some pretzels (white carbs!!) dipped in dairy-free cream cheese, or some fruit with a tbs. of nut butter. My big daily indulgence is oat milk in my tea (also don't drink coffee) so maybe my portion of that has grown too large, as it high calorie? I do watch portions like a hawk and I track all my food in an app. Have for years. It's all just frustrating to feel like yikes, I have to cut back more.

People live like this? This is the most depressing thing I have read all day.

No, that’s not normal. However, I’m 5’3” and weighed 112-14 since college. Then at 42, my period stopped. My doctor advised me to gain a bit of weight. I gained 5 pounds easily and my periods retuned. I’m now 48 and holding at 117-119. I think we need a bit of extra fat as we age. We also know it’s a little protective in terms of having a cushion for illness.

Same. No weight gain yet at 47 but I’ve heard this is common once you reach menopause.

Thanks, this is a good point. I do have a physical scheduled, and have been feeling fatigued. So maybe it is all part of that and there is some other issue. It's really weird to me.

No height would take you from looking good to looking stocky with just five pounds.

I am short so 5 is a big deal. I log my habits everyday including everything I eat and the portion sizes, and nothing has really changed to explain the gain. It is so damn irritating. I've cut back the way I would in the past if the scale bumped up a little and I just cannot get the scale to come down. I am still pretty toned so I look OK but my clothes are tight. Is this what happens in midlife? Grrrr. Just a vent.

Just curious are you still within normal weight and bmi?

Yes. Not overweight. But feel like I went from looking good to looking stocky real fast. And it isn’t budging.

Maybe it is just your perception. Maybe you were too thin?

Yup. I just gave up and decided to be a size larger and more comfortable and clothes fit better when they are the roght size.

I think so. I am 43 and the indulgence from the summer hasn’t budged yet despite me being back on my regular school routine and schedule.

My cycles are still normal but hormones must be at play.
