Those 2 FCPS pyramids look good on paper, but have good scores primarily because so many kids in those pyramids get outside school supplements such as Kumon, Mathnasium, etc. The curriculum and teaching is the same as the rest of FCPS.

If you wanted Langley HS, that is actually the best pyramid for it, OP.

Depends. Very different experiences.

Are you doing this for you or for your DC?

Define "questioning their gender identity."

This is true in HoCo as well. Schools are so overcrowded and have teacher shortages. Everybody is spending $$$ and time at home to supplement their kids.

Stay in your pyramid through 6th and enter private for 7th. Steer clear of Langley School unless your child is questioning their gender identity. Langley has become woke beyond belief and the kids who are still busy being kids are either forced to go along with their agenda or end up leaving the school. Buyer beware.

Lot of wealthy people looking for ways to spend their money and making others in their community feel the public schools must be an inferior option. There’s less FOMO (fear of missing out) in the somewhat less wealthy areas (McLean, Marshall, Madison, Oakton).

I am not the OP but I also am having a similar internal debate of whether to send my child to the public elementary in the Langley pyramid vs private school.
I went to public school and then to top 10 private university, and I initially planned to send to public school. But I am now debating which would be better for my smart but sensitive little boy. Are privates less likely to have bullying since they are smaller class sizes? Would he be able to advance in topics he enjoys, or do public school teach to the “mean”? Is there anyone who switched from public to private (or vice versa) in this pyramid and if so, why? Thank you for any insight can provide!

There must be a reason why you are considering privates in the first place; please tell us what that is? Without more info to go on, you're asking a blanket question that people can't answer.

So first you're asking about yourself, now you're asking about other people?
Ok, for others, I'd say most people don't move to the Langley HS pyramid planning to go private from preK-grad school. I'd say it's probably opposite. People move to Langley because k-12 schools are great and UVA etc potential.

A large percentage of the kids in both of those schools are also in the Langley pyramid just based on the location. Obviously some make the decision to go private and lots make the decision to go to public. One of the big factors for us was class size in the early elementary years, but you have to decide what factors are important to you. I think you would be surprised when you start school though how many Langley pyramid kids go to private.

I am in that pyramid. My DCs did SH and CMS and private in HS. We didn't do private for K-8 because we wanted to have neighborhood friends and felt like the AAP at SH was better than most privates. We have lots of friends that went to SH, Potomac and Langley School as well as other Elementary schools in McLean. Not sure what you are looking for in an answer because you have not given any details around why you are looking.

There's a lot to say about all of these options. Any particular questions you have about a program, curriculum, extra curricular opportunity? Or maybe something about your kiddo? Then people can give you quality feedback.

My answer is that there isn't a wrong choice.

We are in the Langley school district (Springhill, Cooper, Langley) and are wondering whether to send our son to public school or The Langley School or the Potomac School. Any insights would be appreciated!
