You don't need a severe disability. You can have any disability and if he has anxiety / ADHD that is documented then that is what is needed. For most schools, there is a process with a Disability Office of some kind.

My DD did as well. Helped a lot. Easy process.

Filing for disability accommodations in housing is pretty easy. I would think that sleep issues would easily qualify him, unless it's a school with very few singles.

My DD had singles at GMU but she filed with the disability services office. She had a single the first year. A double with a high school friend the second. Then singles or singles off of quads for the next two years. I don't know if you can access singles without accessing disability services. FWIW, she had a 504 in high school and, because it was more than three years old, GMU insisted on another round of testing, after which they gave her the accommodations she needed. Good luck

If he's attending community college right now, he could look at a schools that only require kids to live in the dorms for freshmen. I'm pretty sure the big schools expect people to leave the dorms after a year.

DC has serious sleep issues and some anxiety. He is seeing therapist, who recommended he lives in single dorm, if his school will accommodate. He is attending community college, hoping to transfer this spring or next year. Have you heard of local MD/VA colleges (within easy drive, but ideally in state), who have single rooms for freshman or sophomores with special needs? I thought they only would offer that to kids with serious disabilities. Therapist is willing to write a letter to a school.
