I hesitate to waste energy posting because Jeff deleted many posts about this topic because of some 48 hour rule which prohibits any negative comments after a death (not clear if this rule applies to the death of terrorists and criminals?).

I think the way they continue to go on tours of these places and expecting the royal treatment is then saying they are ok with what happened in the past.

Why single out the British? The Dutch, Belgians, Spanish and Portugese also committed many horrors during their colonial days.

It’s like blaming the Kennedys or the Kardashians for Iraq and Afghanistan when you really should blame Dick Cheney and the Beltway bandits.

I'm curious about this. The question is, what could she have done differently...that is unique to her position?

She could have used her position to speak out about colonialism early and often. But so could any other high profile Brit over the past 70 years. Do we hold them all equally accountable for colonialism?

Did she have any authority to "release" colonies?
Did she have control over the money/valuables? I know the crown "owns" a lot of it. But could she have just....given it back herself?

I genuinely do not know.

What? I really think the world keeps them in the palace, otherwise what purpose do they serve? No, I never understood why they still have all this . But then, we do not and elevate celebrities instead. I just don't understand the targeted criticism, regarding colonization, of the queen after her death, when she literally had no power. Target the country. You can criticize their wealth, their family dynamics, all kinds of BS, but this is quite a stretch to target her for Africa, India, etc.

Overwhelmingly the world does not crave monarchy.

I think they are supported by the British public, who pays them. Does the British owe the apologies for decisions in the past?

Seems like she was just in a line of monarchs after the fact, with many situations changing in the last 70 years anyway. She had no actual power, colonized nothing, etc. They are a show family, they don't actually reign, just a lot of pageantry.
