One year my kid always told the teacher he didn’t have a snack because then he got the chocolate chip mini muffins in the class for the kids with no snack. He wanted those over what he brought.

Either the parents suck and don’t think they need to send in a snack because “ it’s the schools job” or they can’t afford to send in snacks. Go to Costco and buy a large box of snacks to donate to the teacher. I did this in K and 1st. And no you shouldn’t have to, but to be a good person do it anyway.

I periodically send in granola bars or whatever for the teacher to have back-ups. It’s the kids who don’t bring snacks who need the foods the most.

I'm a kindergarten teacher and I brought in snacks for the first month or so since many kids didn't bring them in. I teach in a Title 1 school so most kids get free lunch. I got donations from my family/friends to cover most of the rest of the year.

I bet in some cases parents are sending a snack in the lunchbox and kids are eating it at lunch and/or throwing it out if they don't finish it. Kids throw away SO much unopened food.

I have sent a box of snacks in to me sons class so the Teacher doesn’t have to buy all the snacks for kids. It isn’t much but it is better then nothing.

Snack time for my kids just meant you could munch during whatever was happening at that time There was no real break in activities. Kids that had no snack just didn't eat. The only time there was snack were years with a very early or late lunch. I think one of my kids often ato her snack on the bus before school started. Her choice.

Mine is a 2nd grader in MoCo. Because they don’t eat lunch until after 1, the teacher gives them time to eat a snack in the late morning. Reading this thread reminded me that I forgot to send one yesterday. When my kid gets up, I’ll ask him what he did and how often kids don’t bring a snack. My guess is that it’s a combination of parents forgetting and (if it’s a high farms school) not having money or not being used to supplying meals/snacks. If it’s a wealthier school, it might be some is these weird DCUM people that are uber controlling about everything their kids put in their mouths and feel like they don’t need a snack.

Same exact situation. My DD says the teacher has back up snacks, I think like goldfish crackers.

I think you have covered all the potential reasons. I doubt parents want children to go hungry and that's the only other reason I can think of.

I suppose sometimes thinking of a nutritious snack your kid will eat is hard, and maybe they haven't jumped over that hurdle yet.

Or the kid just ate the 'afternoon' snack along with morning snack or lunch. Lots of kids aren't good at leaving food they like for a later time period at that age.

At kid's 1st grade class, there is an afternoon snack time. Homeroom teacher ask parents to pack a snack daily for kids to eat at that time. This is week 2, we get reminders from teacher that many parents don't pack daily snack for kids, and I wonder what those kids doing during snack time if they have no snacks. I pack my kid snack daily, probably crackers, chips or cookies in his backpack. It is nothing nutritious, but it is just something small & easy to eat.

I remember last year, we have similar situation happen at kindergarten. So homeroom teacher bought snacks with her money & also asked for classroom snack donations to give out snacks to kids that have no snacks. The lunch hour ends at noon, and I think the pm snack time is 2pm this school year. What could be the reasons that kids have no snacks, due to money issue or just think their kids need daily snacks or just forget about it.
