It’s probably equitable grading policy in practice. No homework “counts” for grading. Perhaps, it’s a good thing. Students have a lot more freedom to decide on how much to practice and on what type of material.

Does your course syllabus outline which assignments count towards the final grade and which do not? How many actually count?

Syllabus does not state how skills are assessed. How is mastery achieved and assessed? Only tests or does teacher decide that a kid has achieved mastery?
Can parents or teachers from Madison HS comment on this? This is not just for Bio, but for most subjects. While Fairfax county is trying to make grading, retake policy equitable across the county schools, why are certain schools , departments having their own grading policy? It used to be formative, summative and HW. Now there are around 10 or more different skills assessed. This is all too confusing for the kids and parents.

Perhaps this varie3s by school or class. My kids' summative and formative grades have always counted, but I noticed they are now counting the tests/quizzes more (summative?)

Interesting. Anyone have links about this. My son worked hard on 2 labs and was surprised to find out they are not graded.

Can someone please explain the new biology grading system? DD is in HN Bio. None of the homework or lab is graded (grade entered but not calculated in grade), although plenty of homework is assigned. Grading seems subjective on lab skills, analysing data and constructing conclusions.
