There was a time MCPS didn’t have athletic trainers. They are not a substitute for a medical doctor. Ours would green light football players to return to play when they had concussions. Just a way to skirt around the concussion protocols.

It would be ok to end the athletic trainer contracts and have parents responsible for getting students to a doctor if they are injured.

If child got injured in the school team during games with other MCPS schools, do parents need to pay for care received from the school Athletic Trainers? Or the the school Athletic Trainers are paid by MCPS?

I agree there's also a teacher shortage. However the need for one does not relate to the need for the other. Both of these shortages would be filled by different applicants. And the shortages are due to different reasons. The athletic trainers is due to low pay. I am not 100% up to what the teacher shortages from. Maybe overwork?

They need to fire Jeff Sullivan who heads the county athletics

I know they contract to different medical providers as I understand they also have a contract with Adventist healthcare. Whatever it is, they are obviously not paying the trainers enough. That's how they can fix this.

Cannot volunteer to be an athletic trainer. You have to have a certification I imagine since this is to treat injured athletes.

MCPS does not care enough about their student athletes.

So you think MCPS can just wave a wand and voila... we have all the athletic trainers that we need!?
The entitlement mentality of some MCPS parents is beyond beliefs.
