pulled pork or barbacoa sandwiches. You can keep the meat in a small thermos and then make the sandwich with a healthy coleslaw.
homemade fried frice with lots of veggies and egg (again in the thermos).
I get it - we do not pick up meals on the go for kid activities. We have to be able to make it work with homemade meals, even if we have to pack them early.

My guess is OP lives in MD or VA and kids go to school in DC (or some combination of this) so OP leaves home and has to drive to the school, wait in the pick up line (or at Metro, what have you), drive to the activity (which is not near school or home), wait some more, then drive home. There are your 7 hours.

Different kinds of taquitos, burritos, wraps. A lot of recipes you can make in batches and freeze in advance, defrost and microwave.

You could also put together bowls-Asian or Chipotle types with layered ingredients-rice, protein, veggies, etc

Thanks for these ideas! I love the couscous/roasted veg/fish idea, my kids will totally go for that.

One kid will be eating in the car half on drive there and half on drive home, so soups may be rough. Thicker soup like chili seems workable though!

First question, will you or they be eating in the car or at a table at the practice facility?

It might get old, but I'd go super simple with sandwiches or charcuterie-type meals. Soups or chilis might be really messy if you're in the car. For you, if you're just sitting there, something as simple as a Lean Cuisine or leftovers from the night before that you can reheat.

Chilis are good and freeze and reheat well.

Chunky soups with some bread, cheese and fruit.

Couscous with roasted veg and some cooked fish or meat.

Pre-cooked baked potatoes with toppings.

I’m going to be taking my teens to a practice twice a week and will be gone 3pm-10pm including transit. I’m looking for ideas for packable dinners—homemade meals that can be made a day or two in advance preferred. And there’s a fridge and microwave at the practice site.

So far I’m thinking of baked pastas and curry with rice—any other ideas?
