Grading happens in Canvas. Later the teacher pushes grades from Canvas to Synergy/Parentvue. Perhaps you're getting the Canvas notification.

I think something changed because I used to always be able to see their grades in canvas on the parent app.

When I was a kid, a weekly report was sent home. And, if we got a D or F, we had to take the work home to be signed by a parent and then return it to school the next day.

Np and yes back when we had actual grades papers. My parents would see all of my grades.

ParentVUE only shows you the grades, not the comments. StudentVUE shows the comments. Have your kids sign in or give you their logins so you can go through comments about assignments with them.

Teachers enter grades into Canvas first, usually. The easiest way to view the grade and any comments is to just go in through the child’s chrome book and look there. The parent version of canvas is like a clunky, bad loop. One thing to note is that there is a second step where the teacher sets up grades to sync and load into parentvue. This is not automatic and depending on the teacher could be soon, or many weeks later. One other thing I’ve learned is the grades in canvas are straight grades that are not necessarily weighted, but when they’re loaded into parentvue, they are weighted. So if hw is 10 percent of the grade, and there have been lots of hw assignments, and class work is 90 percent of the grade but only a few assignments, Canvas will sometimes look like a grade is one way because each assignment is given equal weight, but the actual grade may differ in parentvue once grade weighting is processed. The grades in parentvue are the actual grades.

I don’t think there is a way for you as the parent to see the graded assignment with the teacher’s annotations, etc. in ParentVUE, I get their grades and teachers’ comments “Great insight!” Or “revise the thesis and resubmit by Monday.” However, I can’t see the digital markup itself.

I should know this but…how do I see the grades teachers have given on assignments?

I get email notification that an assignment is graded. Email doesn’t have a grade and the link in the email appears to be to Canvas. Clicking the link takes you to MyMCPS classroom, which refers parents to Parentvue. I can’t find the graded assignments in parentvue. The parent resources tab in parentvue links to MyMCPS classroom which, in turn, refers me back to parentvue.

This is for all assignments for both kids- middle school and ES. I can sometimes find in parentvue the numerical score for my middle schooler’s assignments, but not the actual assignment. I can never find any graded assignments for my elementary school kid. The only way I can actually see the work turned in and the teacher’s grade/feedback is to have my kids sign inti MyMCPS classroom and show me everything. What am I missing?
