Believe me if you had to make your kid do homework every school night you would not think that. If you really are that hell bent on giving your kid homework you can certainly dig up some worksheets for them

It’s optional. We rarely do it. But I do work one on one with my kiddo on her reading, using my own materials since their Benchmark curriculum is quite possibly the most awful crap that is not based in evidence they could have possibly purchased

We didn’t do homework in K or 1st in mcps. I did tell the teacher that I felt play was more important after a long day and she didn’t have any problems with it.

We ignored any busywork assignments in Grades 1 & 2. It didn't matter.

+1 I feel seen. We are really struggling with this — how did you cope? Feel so sorry for my DD sitting all day learning almost nothing while the teacher deals with disruptive students. Is socialization worth her having to endure this lack of instruction?

Regarding hw, it should be optional, just check with the teacher

We get eureka Hw - a couple of math problems a night - plus reading for 20 mins (adult to kid or kid to self). It’s not a lot and we don’t mind having kid complete it.

We had hw in K. We did it sometimes. Hw in Es should be optional and we treat it thst way.

Its not optional.

It was in our ES - through third grade. Listen at BTSN and they will let you know, but MCPS policy is that’s it’s optional in younger ES grades. Studies show homework that young is useless.

Just do it and teach your kid good work habits for the future. That's far better than the non-sense we got.

I feel like this is ridiculous. Like actual pages in a workbook, not like find some rocks or being your favorite toy and be prepared to talk about it. Does anyone else?
