Likewise with carbs. I love, love, love bread and cookies and sweets. But they simply do not love me back. Sob.

Ugh, SAME OP. Same. I'm 44. I enjoy drinking alcohol but the cons outweigh the pros at this point. It's not like I can't function the next day but I just feel blah and fuzzy--even after just 1 glass--because it's affecting my sleep so much now.

I won't even get started on how terrible I feel eating the same foods I've been eating for the past 20 years. Sigh.

Me too!

I've stopped drinking. Reluctantly stopped eating meat and most simple carbs. All but cut out sugar (I love candy).

I am in the best shape, though. And I feel good. Healthy and clear headed.

I do still pop an occasional edible. I'm allowed one vice.

I wish I would lose my taste for all of the above!

I wish (chocolate). I have lost my taste for alcohol though.

Second, yes, this is very, very sad. Alcohol just makes me feel awful in my 40s… instant hot flash, especially from wine, and I can’t sleep, I feel sluggish and headachy and unmotivated the next day. Sigh. And with meat, I never noticed an issue until I went mostly vegetarian. Now when I eat animal protein, and always local/grass-fed/organic - I just feel really full and lethargic and icky the next day. Sigh. Sigh. Sigh.

None of this means that you can't ever drink or eat meat again. You're still able to make trade offs. For me, this would mean I only drank rarely, when it would really contribute to my fun (like a college reunion or wedding or something) and just plan a low key day the next day or two after. I'd probably eat less meat, but not no meat. It doesn't have to be black and white.

I regret this discovery about myself also. Sorry OP.

It might be worth it to search out the stupid high end meat that’s pastured on a regenerative farm type of thing. Factory meat is not good for us.

+1
But I still like alcohol and it makes me feel like crap. Then I questioned maybe I was an alcoholic because I really craved my 2-3 glasses of wine once or twice a month. Yeah, I normally stop at 2 not 1!

Meat does nothing to me though, so I will continue to eat like a T rex

I feel you. Also 42 and I recently cut out bread for a week. I felt and looked better immediately (which is not to say I continued to avoid bread after that week). I'm so mad about it, especially because MIL has been recommending it for years. Ugh.

42 yo fit woman. But realizing that I feel so much better when I don’t drink alcohol and when I don’t eat meat.

I do not want this to be true.
