Yes, knowing it will count as I excused absences is important. Plenty of people still do it, but it’s not excused.

Actually, Virginia law requires a kid to go to kindergarten.

Oh, if some random mom of high schoolers says it's ok, then surely it must be!

Kids should learn from Day One that schooling is very important and that you don't skip it for things like Disney. It doesn't really matter whether the kid is actually "missing" something.

Yup. We missed two weeks of school last year (at various times) and my kid still scored in the 99th % on all the tests she had and had good reports from her teachers. She got so much from her time off school and with extended family we rarely see.

Mom of high schoolers here. Totally fine in November. The only time it wouldn’t be a good idea would be the first month of school and the last week — those transitions are important.

I did this regularly until 3rd grade.
