We drive two cars, almost solely on electric. Each car gets driven about 6k miles a year. We registered both this summer, but this fall each one stopped reporting mileage after reporting for a few months. I have emailed and called and have not yet figured out how to get them "reactivated".

I live in VA and this post is the first time I'm hearing about a highway use fee. Then I did some research and found out that the average fee is $20. Do I want something in my car to track my mileage so I can save, what, $5 or $10? Nope. Not worth it.

The standard fee varies based on the vehicle. The average highway use fee is about $20, according to DMV. The average is somewhat skewed because electric vehicle owners can pay upwards of $100 and many fuel-efficient vehicles pay a fee closer to $14.

This is why I would never do this. You hardly save any money and do you really want the DMV tracking?

it only works if you are driving less than 11600 miles per year.

if you drive out of state it will not differentiate the miles. IE if you drive a long trip to florida or NY multiple times, multiple trips to rehoboth/OC etc, your mileage will be counted towards your VA tax.

you will need to put a vehicle mileage tracking piece of equipment on your vehicle.

my normal commute is 18 Miles each way.. That's 7200 miles work related. I checked my mileage from a year ago. i rove 15142 miles over the last 12 months the year before a tick over 14K miles

I didn't have any big trips but had a fair amount of travel to Annapolis and back.

WFH has changed a lot of the driving dynamic for many people. not all, but enough. Up side, is that maybe you'll save a few bucks....

I have an older Prius that I drive about 6k miles annually. I’m considering enrolling in mileage choice instead of paying the Highway Use Fee when I renew my registration. Is anyone on here participating in the program and willing to share their experience so far?
