My husband and I and 2 kids are all on the same Apple ID. When someone adds one of the other phones so they can see text messages, you should get an alert that says something like "your number is now being used by [x phone number]" There should be some alert to you that he's doing this. I am not aware of any way to see someone else's texts without them getting alerted. In any event, I'd just buy a pay-as-you-go phone as someone else suggested. Or you can get a new phone with a totally different carrier and set up a brand new side account.

I would have never even considered using the same Apple ID as my DH. Maybe with a kid, but never my DH.

Just generate your own Apple ID.

I don't even know where to start with this. I'd get my own Apple ID for starters. I have an unlocked apple phone with Tmobile (previously ATT) that has a pay as you go plan. I hate contracts. Maybe look into something like that? All the companies have them--Verizon, ATT, Tmobile, Virgin, plus off brand ones too. I pay $50 including tax for unlimited everything. Google pay as you go plans and find something you like. I'm 100% sure they have android options as well.

Honestly though--this would be divorce worthy for me. Can you keep your phone and change the SIM card and get your own Apple ID or are you trying not to tip him off that you're changing phones?

What's DH's history? Was he divorced? Does he have a criminal history? Strange tattoos?

You can do find my iphone with all different apple ids, but yeah, that's crazy that your husband feels he has the right to do that. Have you told him that's unacceptable?

My family all has iPhones under one AppleID which I like as we can use “Find My iPhone” and other features.

My DH keeps changing the settings, without my knowledge, so that he can see my texts.

There is nothing inappropriate but I hate him weighing in on text discussions I am having with my 80 year old Mom or BFF. The worst part is, these settings get changed so I have no idea he has read the texts until he brings them up in conversation.

He has zero friends — which is a whole other problem — so I do not read his private texts because there are none!

I want to set up a separate phone (Google or Android) where I can text freely. What is the cheapest way to buy a second phone and do this?
