I maintained 1200 for a good while using LoseIt, and gained it all right back when I tried to enter a maintenance phase. I switched to a flexible plan in July where I eat 1500 during the week and 1800 Fri/Sat. It is so much easier and I'm consistently losing .5-1lb/week w/o being hungry.

Thanks, I am 5’6” and currently weigh 150, trying to get back to 140 since 135 is never happening again.

I have done a lot of keto in the past but I need to stay away from too much meat so thought I would try something different, but I still eat very few carbs and I also do IF so I only eat between 12-6pm. Lose It recommended 1200 calories for 1-2 lbs per week. But maybe I do need to bump it up a bit. Once I get to 140 I plan to add more back to help maintain.

At 5'6" and 150lbs, you need to be eating more than 1200 calories a day. More if you're not sedentary.

Cutting out carbs and eating LOTS of protein instead as well as high fiber low carb vegetables is what has done it. I am amazed at how I am not hungry and can now control myself around things like candy, cakes and sugar

I also chew spicy cinnamon gum instead of eating from boredom. I have also mostly learned not to eat my emotions.

20lbs in less than 12 weeks is fast.

God I’m so angry that it somehow became the new norm that we’re “supposed” to lose 1-2 pounds a week. It’s so unrealistic, unsustainable, and irresponsible for any program to promote this. 2 pounds a week is insane unless you are like, a 300 pound man. When you’re barely even overweight and trying to lose 10 pounds, you should be thinking more like 1, maaaaybe 2 pounds a MONTH.

That is not intermittent fasting. That sounds exactly like my old room mate who was anorexic and bulimic.

I average 1400 but I have done 1200 plenty. That being said are you short and not that heavy? What’s your tdee (mine is 1400-1600 depending on exercise but I’m 5”1” 120lbs and over 50. Slower weight loss eating 1400-1500 might be easier.

Anyway: here is 1200. Really only works if you condense into two meals. If you. Or ally eat breakfast it will take a while to adjust. Push your breakfast back an hour a day i Tim it’s lunch.

Breakfast: coffee (splash of cream if you must) or tea. Water water water.

Lunch: two eggs sautéed with spinach other veggies 1 0z cheese (400 calories) bowl of berries (100) or big bowl of lentil soup or veggie chili. A little cheese or Greek yogurt mixed in, a few crackers. Or a single piece of bread piled with turkey veggies and avocado.
Dinner: 6 oz protein. Large salad , grilled veggies or 1 cup of brown rice … or really any combo of Protein veggies high fiber cane (small
Portion) and salad.

Snack: soup, cucumbers, yogurt a few almonds and an apple. A square or two of very dark chocolate.

This. Just because an app tells you to do something doesn't mean it's safe.

Of course it's safe. That is more than a "safe" amount of calories. It's just unpleasant.

I mean the reason you are hungry on 1200 calories a day is because it's 1200 calories a day.

To add, I found it a very efficient way to lose weight - more efficient than calorie counting or portion control.

I am trying to lose 10 lbs and am using the Lose It app, which has me aiming for 1,250 calories per day. I think I am not making the right food choices because I feel like I am eating very little and am constantly hungry. I think part of the problem is that I eat a lot of high cal foods like olive oil (to sauté veggies or for salad dressing - but just 1T at a time), and love to add cheese and avocado to meals or snack on nuts (but am eating a small portion). I don’t even eat breakfast so most of this is simply coming from breakfast and lunch.

If you eat around 1,200 calories per day can you share what you eat? I guess I need some inspiration for different things to try so I can hopefully eat a little more.
