Born and raised Scottish girl here who still travels back to visit family a few times a year.
Where in Scotland will you be? West coast is generally wetter than east, and the further north you are the more likelihood you might get snow. It will be most likely be damp wherever you are though and that will be what makes you feel colder. Also depends what you are doing - just general sightseeing vs hillwalking would require different outerwear and shoes.

Layers will be good, and a waterproof jacket would be your best bet. I tend to wear a structured rain jacket (think Barbour type material) and wear a sweater underneath along with a hat, scarf and gloves. Shoes/boots that can get wet are your best bet. I usually wear waterproof ankle boots with jeans (I have a couple of pairs of Blondo boots which are cute, comfortable but are waterproof - good for city sightseeing/shopping but not for hill walking etc)

I lived in Northern Scotland, on the water. It was not nearly as cold as I expected it would be and I generally wore what I would here. I would do an insulated coat that packs down small, like a North Face Thermoball. For inner wear, take a long underwear shirt like from Lands End and then layer it under a regular fall shirt or sweater and you'll be just fine.

When I went to England in February, I had a goose down parka and warm boots, hat and gloves. This was southern England, just so you are aware.

Wool. A 100% wool sweater. Waterproof rain gear, coat and footwear. Warm/wool socks. Hat and gloves. Hat that won't blow off your head. Umbrella

If it were colder, I'd say silk underwear, especially bottoms.

Lots of people visit Scotland. If you have not been there, you should not answer. Simple.

Layers, merino wool is great, and then some sort of light rain jacket on top. Barbour isn’t great for travel imo.

Barbour is great for Scotland. You want some warmth and some water-proofing.

I would wear my normal ankle boots unless you plan to hike. Merino wool sweater, jeans, down jacket. Maybe long underwear.

It is not going to be that cold. Uniqlo-type padded jacket is plenty. Timberland boots. Umbrella.

My family is traveling to Scotland and Wales for winter break. I want to travel light, so help me find a great winter jacket and comfortable warm walking boots that can work for walking around towns and castles during the day without looking like a total frump.
