New building, new principal. But just as you really need to be at a DCI feeder to go to DCI, you also need to be at a dual-language DCPS feeder to get into MacFarland’s Spanish program (so BMPV, Powell, Marie Reed). You can’t drop in to the Spanish program from somewhere else.

As mentioned above, an obvious drawback of MacFarland is Roosevelt doesn’t have a Spanish-immersion program while DCI does in high school.

This is why you would be crazy to go to MacFarland from a non-dual-language feeder. MacFarland is basically telling you they don’t value your kids as much as those from the other schools. Raymond is about 60% Hispanic, but DCPS apparently doesn’t feel like they are worthy of participating.

At least on paper, Roosevelt does have a dual language program. Never heard anything about it IRL though. https://dcps.dc.gov/DL

They do drop from 4 classes up through 4th grade to 3 classes of 5th graders.

MV has trouble with retention but no trouble admitting new students at 5th grade and therefore no trouble filling the designated feeder seats to DCI.

So untrue. You can see here how many non-feeder offers DCI makes.

I did look there were ZERO seats offered in the Spanish track, the most in demand given the number of Spanish language elem school, for grades 6-9. DCI doesn't have enough seats for the feeder elem kids in the next three years, so highly unlikely to get in without already being at a feeder

Zero seats offered, but 42 waitlist offers made, so I don't know why you would make a big deal over zero seats offered.

MV seems to be having a tough time with upper grades retention, so I'm not even sure it'll be sending up full classes to DCI.

They will, they have 70 seats at DCI and double that amount of 5th graders.

Which do people think is better for middle school? MacFarland Bilingual or DCI. Both for Spanish?
