If you're at Norwood, you'll get a stronger academic experience at the publics. (And higher expectations of student behavior).

Save some money and try public - you can always go back. Plus, having all your kids friends in the neighborhood and being able to walk to school is priceless. And, you’ll make more friends too. My three all are going through - Murch/Deal/JR. Not perfect but my kids are all thriving, less entitled then they would be and know how to advocate for themselves as well as dealing with issues.

Snort. Obviously you've never been to a bake sale at Murch. Cupcakes galore!!!! The last bake sale was the Girls on the Run team raising money for UNICEF. I have no idea where you get your information (no one has a kid at all those schools), but it's...creative, to say the least.


Not at murch but another school and I have never seen a parent in crocs running a healthy bake sale. Lmao.


I've never seen a healthy bake sale. I guess they do label the stuff with nuts, or if it's gluten-free? And I can't recall the last time I saw a pair of Crocs on an adults at pickup.

Me personally, if you have a rising 1st grader and you’re pretty satisfied with the school, I’d stay. TBH, I wouldn’t give up BVR or NPS for any of those schools if your goal is to be private for middle and high school.

+1. Just to be clear OP, the schools mentioned above are the crème de la crème of DCPS. However, they are still DCPS. If you can afford private, stay private. I had to make this decision, and stayed private.

Depends on your finances. If you can afford to stay private- great. If not, go public. I think the DC Publics still are inferior/subpar.

Kid heading into first. We just moved in a a zone for JKLM, Eaton/Stoddert. Trying to decide if we should stay private or try our local school. Anyone been in similar circumstances? If so, what did you do?

FWIW, I had a neighbor who tried public, after 2 weeks didn’t like it but no space at old school to go back.
