OP: Thanks to everyone for responding.

To PP: Our DDs definitely have the same type of hair...her hair also curls up when its humid or when I run the humidifier in her bedroom when she has has a stuffy nose (the only upside to her colds: beautiful hair!).

I'll try brushing it through with the water spray bottle and some detangler that other PPs have recommended.

Have a water spray bottle, because if you ever need to brush/comb her hair when it’s dry, you’ll need to wet it first. A nanny taught me that.

Otherwise, I agree with wide tooth comb, wet brush and detangler.

Another vote for treating it like it’s curly. Comb after bath, wet and apply detangling spray to come between washes.

(I bet it will be curly after puberty, fwiw; that’s when my hair went from wavy to curly.)

I don't think you are going to get away with brushing dry unless you're okay with lots of frizz.

Apply a detangler and comb with wide toothed comb or wet brush. You could even just spritz with water, apply a pea sized amount of something like Kinky Curly Knot Today, and comb through.

Part of it could be age. Toddlers still nap and do crazy things with their head that makes it tangle more. Cutting it shorter for now might be the easiest solution. My daughter had tangly hair like that until she was later in elementary school. Now, she rarely gets tangles.

Are you sure she’s wavy and not curly, but a different type?

For the most part, treat waves the same as curls or it will look bad.

Treat it like curly hair or else it will get pouffy. I like the wet brush, braids, and conditioning detangler spray for younger kids. Depending on the texture it may also be somewhat fragile, and if it is fine then you need to look at lighter products like mousse and whips to style, but that is later.

The wet brush works pretty well for wavy hair!

Ok this post is actually for my two year old DD.

I have very, very curly hair that I know how to manage - wet style, rarely comb or brush and only when it’s wet…never brush while dry.

My DD has poofy wavy hair. I’ve tried combing through tangles with different kind of wet brushes, pick etc. That works fine but I need to brush it in between baths otherwise it gets tangled and messy.

Is there a good brush for this type of hair when it’s dry? Curly hair I was prepared for…no idea for the in between curly and straight!
