I think it's really pretty and definitely in the category of some of the vintage names that are coming back into style. I do agree that it's more for an October baby but I don't think it's that big of a deal.

For a middle name I like
Opal Marie
Opal Elizabeth
Opal Marissa

Awful. If you must, then only if she is born in October.

We know an infant Mabel, Olive, Cecil, Euphemia and Homer… so surely Opal isn’t too out there?

Last name is very very common (think Smith) middle name undecided so suggestions welcome. [/quote

Sorry op but to me Opal is a mouthful.

Here are some other suggestions:

Olivia, Frances, Martha, Octavia, Alice, Lucy, Linnea, Lily

Sounds very Andy of Mayberry to me.

Also, it triggered in my mind another bad name: Rolex.

yeah, it'd be okay for a cat or fish. Not a person.

Um, 14 year olds who behave like that - and that's a lot of them - are going to do that no matter what you name them.

Opal's a very pretty name, OP. Doesn't sound any more childish than other names and less so than names I've seen like Minnie and Daisy and Jimmy (all actual names I have seen that are not nicknames but the person's given name). It will grow with her.

I like it. There are people who will find it too old fashioned, but what matters is how her peers will view it. I’ve recently met some young children named Rhoda and Nigel, so I agree with you that Opal will fit right in.
