Apple watch. I was hesitant to switch from my beloved fitbit to an Apple but after just 2 days, I couldn't believe I hadn't made the switch sooner.

I love all the workout modes and also the fact that it counts activity other than just moving your arms while walking.

It knows I'm walking through a grocery store and adds the steps pretty accurately (when compared to my iPhone that's usually in my back pocket) and is always within 5-10 steps.

Apple Watch, or similar

My garmin counts those steps.

But truthfully, those steps are pretty meaningless, as is trying to reach an arbitrary number.

Focus on quality, not quantity. Steps in stairs, running, doing more intense work will lead to better achievement of goals.

My phone counts my steps. I put it in my back pocket when I'm at the grocery store. You don't need a Fitbit.

Get a basic pedeometer, you wear it on your hip, measures hip swing.

It does work. Just like your phone picks up steps when it's in your pocket. OP you can get a Fitbit and change it to a pocket setting when you grocery stop. I prefer to use my step counter as a way to measure my calories than my steps. I know that the step counter is mostly BS since it is better at picking up long walks than short ones. Like I'll walk 20 steps to the kitchen and it will count as 15.

My current Fitbit (Charge 4) counts steps even if I push something and don’t wave my arm. The first one I had did not count those steps.

It works. I think it's looking for back and forth movement. It really doesn't care whether it's my leg or arm that's moving.

It works. I guess your body moves enough when you walk that it counts it.

Or your could put it on your ankle. That works too.

You need a GPS watch. Maybe the Apple Watch with cell service?
