Spanish is a two year course. You have to have a language for two years to get an IB diploma. Unless he has another language he is using for IB? Is Spanish a second language for him?
But I understand why your DS wants anthropology. It’s a great course.
As for DS2, as long as he has the required amount to get into IB (assuming that is the plan) I see no issue with it. You can drop The HS classes taken in MS from transcript anyway.
