Could it be plastic? I know what you are talking about because I use the same kind of opener. I’m thinking it’s whatever substance they use to line the cans — plastic or similar.

We have one of those newer (last 20 years) type can openers that open the lid from below, so there is no cutting. But when I take off the lid, there is always a bunch of glue hanging on for dear life as I pull up the lid. Is that really any better than just opening the can the old fashioned way? That glue can't be safe to eat. I hate even knowing it's there. I used to use these can openers a long time ago and never noticed the glue. I guess it's a new manufacturing process. Anyone else use these can openers and notice this?
