We just got it, all 5 of us including ds5, dd2, baby 4 months. All unvaccinated. I will admit the 5 year old was dramatically sick for 24 hours at was at the hospital with suspected appendicitis (before we knew it was covid). The next day he was draped over the couch with low energy. The third day cranky but energetic. Fourth day his is running around and being his usual annoying energetic self tormenting his sister. I seem to be mostly over it but dh is still nursing a man cold.

Nobody knows if covid causes life long issues in children. It is way too soon to make a determination like that. Anybody saying something that is fear mongering.

Of the 5 of us the baby was least affected.

OP I don’t want to be a jerk but - you realize your behavior is very extreme? Basically nobody is still doing what you are doing. Even the ones who were because of small kids aren’t anymore because they can get the kids vaccinated.

Think. Does it make sense to you that you are behaving so differently from everyone else? How do you justify it?

Your kid is going to get all kinds of viruses. It’s what kids do. You need therapy.

omg please do not get the 2nd vaccine if he had a reaction to the first, totally insane. Kids do not get chronically sick from covid.

My four year old got Covid and had a fever for one day. Then she was bright and sparky and energetic during the rest of her quarantine. She has had flu and paraflus that were worse. You are doing your four year old no favors by keeping him home at this point.

We’ve been very careful. We kept our 4 year old home instead of going to a 2s program and didn’t have our nanny for six months at the height of covid. For the past year, our nanny and preschool for our son have been the only risks we’ve taken. Also have a nine month old. We all got covid two weeks ago from our nanny. It was fine. We’re all vaccinated, including both kids. It’s not fun, like any other virus, but if you’re healthy and vaccinated it’s not worth ruining your life over.

I’m not trying to be mean here, but it’s not fair to do this to your child. He’ll be going to kindergarten next year. He needs to learn how to behave in that sort of environment. And based on what you’ve said about your isolation, I hope you’re thinking about how well he’s able to interact with peers and adults outside his immediate family.

Yes, he’s going to get sick. Yes, he’s going to get Covid. Presumably you’ve looked at the statistics and already know what an incredibly low risk Covid is for kids. But regardless, you can’t keep him isolated forever.

I think you need to talk to people who have gotten Covid and haven't had bad issues.

I got Covid in May. Rest of my family didn't get it. I felt crappy (fever, cough) for 2 days and then was just congested for the rest of the time I was isolated, not too tired even. I lost smell for 2 months but it's back.

I'm still more cautious than others, but we have definitely been out in the world. You can't live your life like this. There have always been scary things out there, and you went on and did things even though you could have gotten pneumonia or been in a car accident. It's time to move on. You can do this.

Your family’s response is not typical. Most young families have minor or no symptoms.

You are doing your kid more harm by keeping them home at this age than a bout of Covid would do them. Please realize that avoiding educating your child (and that’s what you are considering) will harm them.

I think you need to seek professional help to address your anxiety. I'm sorry you are struggling, life sounds really hard. You can find help that will make your life better.

Not to be dramatic or anything …but covid ruined my life. I was happy social and had a life with travel work and family. Since March 2020, we’ve only been outdoors, no inside events, just our core family, no travel, and I got pregnant and now I have a 8 month old. So we are still masking, still outdoors, still haven’t seen family in other states, and have had no childcare or breaks. Life has been sad and miserable and stressful and just can’t see an end in sight. My sister and mom got covid ba5 and they’re having horrible after effects as in heart palpitations shaking crying about their brain fog going to doctors who referred them to neurologists and taking some intense medications. Then I read about covid causing dementia. Then about it causing these life long issues in children.

And here I am with a 4.5 year old that is starting school in one week. Supposedly. I just don’t think I can bring myself to go through with it. I am scared. I lie awake at night imagining the whole house positive, my baby my bigger kiddo, and having major health implications. We live in a rural area. I am considering a nanny like we had in DC but husband is opposed, he wants our son in preschool. I know he’ll get a million germs just after the first day but I’m am terrified of covid. So this is a rant a desperate attempt to ask for how to be rational, see if I’m crazy or just my anxiety that I know likely needs some treatment. But yes, covid ruined my life and I look out at the world and I don’t know how people can just go about their lives normally knowing how messed up this virus is and its impact on the body.
