It's my understanding that most (not all) food delivery companies are demanding unsustainable percentages for their services which force restaurants to increase prices.
I make it a habit to just order from the restaurant if possible and pick up my order. That way all the money goes to the restaurant directly.
Resturants are saving money by using doordash by not needing to serve or hold people, they should discount as needed, however, i'd like to see transparency on the prices being overcharged to show which restaurants are the perpetrators
There are many articles on the subject if you do a Google search. It's widely accepted that food delivery companies are predatory and restaurants are the victims. Traditional restaurants would love to accept more people indoors, they function as social places.
ChowNow is a subscription-based, not commission-based, food delivery service that purports to keep restaurants in business by not taking too much of a cut of their margins. Their platform doesn't look too different from their competitors, but apparently they're better for the restaurant industry compared to the others.
