Agreed with skip it. Daycare is supposed to make your life easier. Wait until they start school and get even more random assignments!

The kid is 15 months old. They won’t know they are the only ones who don’t have one. Skip it. You have 16.5 more years of this. Pace yourself.

This is bonkers. The only thing I’ve done is send in pictures for this day or that day.

I have an almost 19 yo and 15 yo. This damn project has been around forever! But it’s usually for the 3s or 4s you can at least point to the paper and say “that’s me!” “ that’s mommy” etc. not a 15 month old.

This was a problem at my daycare. You need to either shut it down now or change daycares, because it will be a bigger issue when your kid is 3 and realizes they are the only ones without a diorama or whatever.

Talk to the director and ask that all projects happen at daycare. If they need something from home (like a family photo) you will need several days notice.

IME daycare teachers are encouraged in their trainings and rating guides to do assign this kind of thing, so don't blame the teacher. But do talk to the director.

This. Yes my daycare gave this sort of family project. Others were send in pictures of this or that. You just do it all yourself. They may display the projects around the class and use them to discuss everyone’s family so make it nice but don’t bother to get your 15 month old involved.

I was annoyed (solo parent like you) but in the end it was nice and was displayed in class along with her friends (moms) projects.

My daycare does this sometimes. If I remember I let my toddler scribble on the paper or add some stickers at random (rarely related to the ~theme~). There's a 50% chance I totally forget, and if I remember there's a >50% chance my kid will decide the best way to engage with the activity is to rip the paper to shreds. My daycare has never given me a hard time about rarely turning in "homework."

I'd skip it and not give it another thought. I work for a living - the only people giving me projects are my bosses. Not a daycare I pay to take care of my child.

Do other people's daycare ever give home projects.

My child is 15 months and we are supposed to do an artwork piece that depicts our family. The examples they showed were like child drawn stick figures but at 15 months she is too young. They also mentioned collages and taking pictures of this joint activity. TBH I've completely outsourced the artwork activities to daycare. As a solo mom happy not to deal with the mess at home. They gave it to me on Tuesday with a due date tomorrow! but they said Monday is ok (good thing because my child is too tired after daycare and I'm not going to be late to work for an art paroject.)

How do I involve my kid in this? Let her scribble on the piece of paper? Print out some photos of us and our cat and stick some clue on the back o and let her press them down.

I'm barely keeping my head above water and am not feeling artistic. Literally a day where I get to work and I've managed to cook some healthy foods for her lunch and she is relatively clean (given her hatred of baths and showers), and remember to bring everything she needs for daycare and I need for work and am actually productive at work instead of dragging from fatigue is a win for me - no extra art projects needed.
