I’m here to say, borrow from neighbors or buy second hand. Also don’t stress about things. Get the essentials and focus your time and energy taking courses on feeding, soothing and sleeping, and awake time:play activities. Once the baby is here, you won’t even care if your baby stuff is the most current version and if all your baby stuff matches/has a theme. You’ll be in survival mode and will wish you had a mentor to guide you through what to do. I would save money and hire a postpartum doula or newborn care specialist for the first few weeks. And if you have insurance, get a lactation consultant if you plan on breastfeeding.

THIS. I remember almost turning down a free crib bc I was crazy and now I am SO GLAD I got stuff as hand me downs. Babies become toddlers and then preschoolers SO FAST. You don’t need new stuff. We had so many huge baby things, but then could get rid of them once the baby was done. Get it cheap and then unload it.

Buy second hand whenever possible. We sold so much high end baby gear at a fraction of what we paid for it and it was all in great condition.

Are you talking about for the entire time the human is a baby? Newborn to age 3? Or just the first year of life? Or just baby supplies? I mean, are you considering food? Nursing supplies? Childcare? Copays for well-baby checkups?

You can spend $1000 or $100000, just depends on how much time you want to spend hunting for bargains or if you have too much income

Think you could do it w $5k or less. If you’re into it, you can join a local buy nothing group on Facebook - they’re constantly posting lightly used baby things for free

I would add $200 for random toiletries, baby tylenol, first aid stuff.

A breast pump could put you back a pretty penny. I tell people to not open it and keep the receipt until you're 1000% sure you're gonna use it. Sooooo many breastpumps are used only twice. Rent a hospital pump and if you're actually using it then open your pump.

If there is any chance you will want to 3 across carseats that is a whole thing that requires special carseats. Research that and do yourself the favor of buying the right kind from the beginning.

I’m having a baby in a few months and was wondering how much do you think I should set aside for all “necessities.” I don’t have many friends or family other than my ILs so I am expecting to pay for most items myself. I am estimating 10k for everything. Do you all think that’s enough
