I love the endless roster of well paid “experts” dc has on its payroll who are now going in to local jails to ask prisoners how to solve the violence problem. Peak dc. Obviously the violence is society’s fault and asking people to be accountable just isn’t a priority.

I don't think you sound crazy. There are so many of these dying, impovershed rural towns across this country (see thread about Cumberland). They will not come back for a multitude of reasons. For the people who have a chance at life, consolidate all those dying towns into one town in the county (like the county seat). The other dying rural towns that are far enough away - turn into towns for homeless or criminals.

This is the problem with progressives. They want to endlessly study the root causes of poverty, throw money at it, but not actually hold anyone accountable. Especially in this day and age with the reckoning of the last few years.

The city council will soon revise the dc criminal code so it’s “updated” (more lenient on penalties). They’ve already implemented such soft policies as the youth Rehabiliation act shielding violent criminals’ records until age 26. They’ve just started allowing folks with thousands of dollars of speeding tickets to be allowed to renew their drivers licenses in perpetuity without penalty, they don’t chase atv riders, there is no such thing as fare evasion, they hired at a cost of $9m last year “violence interruptors” which most studies show have no effect on preventing crime….the list is endless.

Rather than crack down, and incarcerate violent criminals to keep them off the streets, they double down on novel progressive policies, because apparently no one should be held accountable for their actions. Teens are let out when they commit gross acts of violence. Obviously, the statists are bad. Is leniency the answer? People will get away with what they think they can get away with.

We need to legalize all drugs and stop prosecuting non-violent drug offenses and prostitution. But if you car Jack someone or violently attack them we should not coddle you. I don’t care if you came from a single mother household, which is a massive percentage of those in DC, and were basically raised in the streets. It isn’t all society’s fault. You decided to attack that person and you should not get a music studio or get paid or whatever new tangled policy is drummed up by some consultant with a sociology degree.

And yet most places with a lot more guns than DC also have a lot less crime. Which proves that the problem isn’t guns at all.

Very interesting and sad. Because there are a lot of programs available that are similar to what is being described and yet…and yet.

Oh my god. I thought somehow your kid was in a tour of a jail and earnestly asked. I did not pay attention to the forum that this is in, clearly!

Interesting -- the city asked for advice from people who committed violent crimes. But I still think reducing child poverty and going after that list of 200 or so sociopaths that the city identified a few months ago would make a big difference.
