What causes kidney stones?

Does anyone have tips for keeping urine acidic?

yes, unfortunately if you have had one, you may have another (at some point). I totally get it!!!!!
If you do have a urologist or helpful primary, you could ask for xray orders to get checked before your vacay....for peace of mind. Like PP said, we stone sufferers have frequent xrays. Reminds me I need to schedule an appt!!!!

You might consider asking for ultrasounds. My urologist is the one who flagged how much radiation I’ve been exposed to with all the X-rays and CT scans I’ve had over the years. She advised me to do ultrasounds whenever possible instead. It takes longer and it’s annoying because they have to really press the wand into your ribs, but it’s better in the long run.

Oh, I’m sorry, I also had what seemed like a UTI and turned out to be a stone. Totally missed by numerous docs over a several week period. Women need to know that’s a possible presentation. I’m my case, it fortunately passed. Hopefully, if you have one, it will pass.

What a terrible doctor! Drink a lot of water and cranberry juice. See what happens.

What a horrible experience you had and I don't blame you for being scared. Keep your urine acidic and don't worry about ruining a vacation. Are you going far? Will there be doctors/hospitals nearby?

God I HATE the cancer warriors with a passion - What a terrible thing to do to someone, to scare them like that - especially a doctor! How on earth did that help in any way. Please be prepared to speak up. After my own doc was indicted for medical fraud, I was so shook up that I told the new one straight up "I don't trust you right now, but I'm here and that's an important first step". She was understanding but I"m sure there's a warning: crazy chick posting in the file. I don't care.

Last year, I had what I believed to be a UTI. I was treated for a UTI but it just didn't go away. This happened on vacation. I saw a very rude doctor at a walk-in clinic near our hotel who told me my blood could also be a cancer, yelled at me, made me feel awful. Overall it was a terrible ongoing experience and we ended up leaving our vacation early, I went to ER, finally got stone diagnosed, spent a month in limbo and on-and-off extreme pain waiting for it to descend, it never descended, it had to be surgically removed, I had a cath inserted, which caused another round of UTIs, overall it was a huge debilitating mess.

I am about to go on vacation and suddenly what do you know I am having the constant persistent urge to pee, I tested positive for leukocytes, am on an antibiotic but am terrified it's another kidney stone and I'll ruin my and my kids' vacation. I am so upset and scared.
