Correct. My daughter applied in October and was told the decisions were taking longer than usual because the admissions office had 50% more applications than expected. They were oversubscribed in the first-year classes both last fall and this fall, had to find additional dorm space to put all the extra students. Last year they took over a Residence Inn, this year they still have it plus the added spaces PP mentioned.

I think that is part of it, but if the acceptance rate is dropping while applications increase then there is a real increase in demand to enroll as well.

Pittsburgh has a very significant endowment. Really good school in an interesting city.

It would be interesting to see it broken down by majors. All the kids I know are applying there for engineering and CS. I bet it is still a safety for everything else. Good luck getting any merit aid though.
