This summer has been awful. Plus it's been consistently bad on weekends and a bit better during the week while we're at work.

Seems like a normal summer.

There was a summer a couple years ago where we had lots of terrible thunderstorms, there were many houses that trees fall on them, power outages, lots of damage, as a regular weekly occurrence.

There have been some heavy rains and that terrible lightning strike but overall the storms haven't been as severe or as frequent this summer.

This summer feels worse to me but it’s because of the humidity not the number on the thermometer. The dew points have been crazy high for the past few weeks and we’ve had so much rain and it’s just so unpleasant to be outside. This weekend should be a nice respite from that.

+1

The temperatures haven't gone over 100 degrees (the heat index, yes. the actual temperature, no) like it sometimes does in Aug.

July was actually one of the rainest months on record too.

So, it actually seems normal if not slightly better

we've had a few years of cooler than usual July/August - it's been a while since we had 100 degree days.

So yeah, brutal, but not atypical.

I was telling my spouse yesterday this summer feels hotter, wetter, more humid that usual. My green yard is my proof - usually July/August, I mow once every two weeks or so. This summer, it's greener than ever. Even once a week is not enough.

Hmm, helpful replies. I wonder if it really is me then. I've been blaming the weather for how awful I feel but now I'm afraid I'm getting depressed and it has nothing to do with it.

I'll try to spend this weekend outside and see how I feel. I hadn't checked the forecast but it does look fantastic . Thanks all!

Have you looked at the forecast? We are about to have a weekend of low to mid 70s and then no more days in the 90s (for the foreseeable future). Today will be the last BRUTAL day for a while.

Are the mosquitoes worse than usual though?

I think this summer has been a little cooler than average, actually. This feels like our first stretch of truly oppressive heat all year and it’s August!

On balance, no worse than usual.

June and early July were cooler than usual. These last few weeks have been a bit warmer than usual. And at this point, everyone is sick of the heat.

Hang in there OP - it is supposed to cool off this weekend.

Is it just me or has this summer been unbearable? I've never loved July+ August in DC but I don't feel like it's usually THIS bad. I feel like I haven't left my house for over a month. We usually do a lot of walking in our day to day lives and I am driving everywhere, we are seeking indoor activities on the weekends.

It's awful and it's starting to make me feel depressed. But maybe I'm just in a funk? How are other people holding up?
