There’s also a “piercing spa” in Fairfax that caters to little girls. I got DD’s ears pierced here when she was 10 and she loved it. They gave her a tiara, wand, and a cupcake. They also apply numbing cream and have two people pierce at the same time. DD hates needles, so we paid extra for this place to make it as easy as possible for her. Highly recommend!

+1

We went to Brillance in Vienna and it was a great experience. Clean, professional, and the piercers take their jobs very seriously with training etc. A pediatrician’s office can’t replicate that type of specific training with the Inverness or Blomdahl systems most commonly used in dr offices.

I brought my 8 year old and it was a good experience. I've had multiple piercings myself both with guns and needles and the needle hurt far less and healed faster every time.

Money is not the concern here.

Not true.

I had my DD’s ears pierced when she was 6 at a tattoo parlor in Montgomery County, MD. The lady was fantastic and she did a great job. I wanted it done with a needle (versus a gun).

Definitely recommend it, but it is a bit more expensive.

There are a few places in MD and VA (none in DC due to regulatory constraints) that do a lot of children’s piercings. Craig Pokes U, Brilliance, etc. If you search for those names, a lot of prior discussions will come up. We plan on Craig Pokes U as a birthday gift this winter.

I would absolutely go a professional piercing parlor. I get the appeal of the pediatrician's office, but would you rather have the piercing done by someone who does it all day long for a living, or someone who just does it occasionally?

Yes, I took my DD to a piercing parlor last year to have her ears done and I highly recommend it. It was more expensive than a mall store, of course, but it was a great experience. Everything was extremely hygienic, the jewelry was high quality, and DDs holes are even and healed extremely well.

I haven’t, but I’ve asked the question on DCUM (when my DD wanted her ears pierced - she changed her mind) and the overwhelming consensus was go to a tattoo/piercing place. That they know what they’re doing.

Has anyone had their child's ears pierced at a professional piercing/tattoo parlor? I'm considering it for my 9 yo dd because they use a needle rather than a piercing gun and it seems like they are better trained and more experienced with hygiene and safety than someone at the mall or a beauty shop. I think the pediatrician's office does it, but my dd gets so apprehensive there.
