Eh, I have lots of friends who just lost their parents. They were late 60s early 70s. People are able to live longer.

What did they die of?

In my family, my parent's generation (born roughly 1940-1960) are all going strong. I was born in 1972 and so many of my older and younger cousins have passed-mostly related to addiction and mental health issues, but the older generation also had those and managed to survive.

My 80+ yr old mom battled cancer and all of her caregiving children including me (late 50s to mid 60s) have aged 10 years while looking after her for just 2-3 months. Her illness was so harrowing that I felt that I was in a nightmare and going through a heart attack myself and she needed intensive care. Its been months but I have not recovered. It was my own tipping point.

Today, if you've lived a relatively healthy life, 60 is still considered way too young to die. My grandfather died at 60, but in medical parlance and lifestyle, that was eons ago.

All my friends with cancer have survived so far due to medical advances.

60s isn't really middle age. My grandfather died of cancer in his late 60s. It was terrible, and too early to lose him, but nobody said that he was middle aged when he died.
