Last year, DS's only engagement with his roommate was to text a few times to figure out the fridge rental. They got along well and he had a good year.

They went to the same high school, are going to the same college, and they don't know each other? I believe you, that's just so unusual.

I assume they chose to live together? Why?

No. My DD requested "random" assignment...hoping to meet someone from another place...and ended up being assigned to room with someone from the same HS. As my DD is very introverted and there was this year of virtual learning (i.e. black screens) , she doesn't know a good chunck of the kids in her class. (She also fid not go to grade school in the same feeder schools, so didn't know anyone from elementary school at that HS).

Boy who will be a sophomo5re this year. No communication prior. Move in day we met the 2 other sets of parents, one asked to exchange numbers, which I was thrilled to do. And, I actually texted her once to ask her to ask her son when the boys would be home in late September so I could have a birthday surprise delivered for our son (with enough enough share with roommates).

DD has been texting her future roommate some but I don’t think it’s a lot. Both seem introverted. Assigned by college.

My DD had a nine person suite her first year and they had set up a group chat and had all followed each other on Instagram by the time school started but minimal actual communication.

OP here Okay, feeling a bit better. My DS hasn’t talked to his at all aside from a quick snap exchange to confirm that they are roommates. Nothing since.

DS will probably not think of contacting their roommate before move-in day. Yes, he's introverted, and yes, he doesn't care about the roommate unless they start being too loud.

If your DC is going to have a roommate that they have never met in person, how and how much are they communicating?
