You’re Wearing That? By Deborah Tannen. It didn’t really offer a lot of solutions for how to communicate better and avoid the problems that happen so often when there are miscommunications, but it did really help me gain perspective about my mom’s point of view. I was definitely able to empathize with her more after reading it.

I know that’s probably not the kind of book you meant, but it was a quick read and I got a lot from it.

Divine Secrets as mentioned, also Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants is a great YA option focused on friendship but there are mother/daughter portions too.

For motherhood I think Dear Ijeawale is brilliant, but it’s not a novel.
I recently read This is how it always is and thought it captured a challenging moment in parenthood well.
Elena Ferrante’s Neapolitan Novels are an amazing treatise on friendship but her The Lost Daughter is beautifully poignant about motherhood.

+1, this was a good one. I liked how modern it felt. It more closely reflected my experience of motherhood, even though the main character and I had very different paths in life.

Maybe something by Anne Tyler? I’d have to give some thought to which one. Or maybe something by Alice Munro?

Oh, and I am OP. I loved the Hulu series on Little Fires and thought it explored motherhood really well. I don't remember the book it as well.
