Agree with this but that won't stop colleagues from bad mouthing you. I would continue (following this advice) and look elsewhere.

Yeah, and I would add that it sounds like an environment where nothing you do will really get people to stop bad mouthing you (and I would guess there is a general culture of sniping and bad mouthing which comes from the top).

Thank you for this. I need to make a bigger effort to “cut back” to working only 40 hours after my miserable evaluation.

I feel conflicted in that there is so much work and that I will fall behind. At the same time, doing as much work as I have been doing, has resulted in low marks so screw it!

I would find another job first.

Then quit.

Op again. I’ve never been so tempted to quit so much before.

And yes, I would work only 40 hours a week at the current job while searching. Bc you can’t work 80 hours a week, job search, and raise a kid, or at least not well.

Yes, I’m exhausted after getting home and have a long commute.

I’m a manager and they hired someone senior to me but they haven’t taken on any of my work. They took two years to advertise and interview. They hired someone but the new person hasn’t shown up yet. I’m at maximum capacity and so is the person senior to me.

How long have you been waiting on a new hire? Have they even advertised it?

There is an inordinate amount of work and requires a lot of time due to the detail required to do the work. I’m doing lower level work because they haven’t hired someone else to do it. It’s unrealistic. I worked long hours, nights, weekends, holidays and I got a crappy review.

I don’t shirk my duties. I’m a workhorse.

Would you stay with your employer at risk of getting fired? Or give notice before finding another job? I have a child to support.
