If they are a 6th grader, they can attend orientation on the Thursday before school starts. They will get a copy of their schedule and actually run through the schedule (and walk around the building to all classes) that morning. Their schedule might still change before Monday, if counselors still need to balance class sizes.
+1 Same is true for HS, 9th graders get their schedule on the mock day everyone else the first day of school
