I already did! DC got too cold to live there for me many years ago but I finally managed to get out!

Imagine living in this swamp land 200 years ago. At least we have AC and ice whenever we want it.

No. I’ve lived here fjrcc bc almost 50 years and it’s always been like this. I didn’t even have a/c growing up. Somehow I survived!

It will be too hot to live in for you, but there is an ever expanding market for better HVAC and better building materials. If people can be comfortable in Hong Kong and Dubai, they can be comfortable in DC in 2050, 2075.

But eventually the only places to live on Earth will be NZ and the far north.

Yes. At work I recently saw someone present on current and modeled climate trends and the forecast is that by 2050 it will basically be like South Carolina here.

We moved here from New England and frankly I'm unhappy we did, but it was not easy for us to find two specialized jobs in the same place, we unfortunately aren't people who can move anywhere.

DH and I were just talking about whether we needed to move in the next 5-10 years because the summers here will just be longer and more unbearable. Our AC runs 18 hours a day right now and we keep it at 74 degrees downstairs during the day. The average temp in VA has increased 1.5 degrees since the beginning of the 20th century. We have debated moving to Maine or New York (family there) to get away from this heat. Will we all become climate refugees soon?

It would probably be a lot cheaper (but less trendy) to lower your ac by a degree or two rather than relocating.

I mean everywhere is going to be too hot eventually, but honestly this summer has been milder than usual. June was particularly mild and we actually turned off our AC for a while and just did windows and ceiling fans. It's always gross in July and August. You have to plan ahead, make sure you have pool access, make sure you have the right clothes and plan activities that make sense for the heat. Getting out of town for a while also helps. People have been doing that in the DMV for a couple hundred years.
