It's not illegal and it's on their property so not sure you have a case Your fence line probably has optimal sunlight hence the location of the plant.

Also note that it only smells bed when it flowers.

Can't you grow some pine trees as a buffer or fragrant Lilian byshes or a crepe myrtle that flowers several times along the fence line?

This plant is in the backyard, no?

I know this isn't what you want to hear, but if it were me I'd befriend them and hope they offered to share.

First of all, you need to chill out. You are already worried that these are going to stink up your pool, months in advance? If this does indeed happen, then say something. Honestly, the plants are unlikely to cause an odor issue, but the people sitting outside smoking it certainly will. But, if this is legal in your jurisdiction, I'm not sure that you can do anything about it. I also hate cigarette smoke, but I can't exactly ask neighbors not to smoke outside their own house. This is definitely one of the downsides of pot legalization -- the smell is everywhere.

Yes I’m positive now. I heard them talking about it today and that’s what alerted me to it. It starts to smell for several months during its flowering period in fall is what I’ve been reading. We have our pool set up right close to where the plant is

When you say weed plant are you suggesting it's marijuana? Are you sure? The rules on growing would depend on your jurisdiction. I don't think it's going to smell just from growing... maybe once they smoke it...

What is the point of your post?

We moved in last year. The neighbors have this weird fast growing plant next to the fence in the backyard. Never really thought much of it but today I realized it’s a weed plant. I don’t get it they have a huge lot why choose to plant it next to the fence where we can see it. It’s not even seeing it that bothers me.
I’m worried about the smell ….there’s several of them. This is also a nice neighborhood where most homes go for several million. Not trying to be rude it doesn’t bother me that they have it just wish they’d plant it somewhere else.
