Yes and I did. We are not wealthy but have what we need but could not afford to help without help. We pay taxes for services for when we need them.

Oh absolutely. The government passed laws saying that I need to pay these heavy taxes to provide for those that need a safety net. So I am going help my relatives take full advantage of the resources that I helped pay for.

I would do both, but I'll say that if your parent has a difficult time keeping track of documents and you live far away, it's easier to just help them once in a while.

A little different, but reminds me of a time I was in Target years ago, and the gentleman ahead of me reached into his wallet to pull out hit EBT card, but had to pass a seriously fat stack of hundreds to get it.
