This is OP. That place looks fantastic! When we can go on a longer trip we will definitely try out that place and report back.
This trip we need to stay closer.
To be clear, we don't leave the dog unattended, not even outside. I grew up on a farm so I know how to walk the perimeter and check the fences (probably not a skill a lot of people in the DMV have, haha). Yes, the dog barks if we are outside sitting on a porch and its stuck inside. We are in the midst of training. In this situation, if we want the dog to be outside with us we use a long leash which allows some exploring, but it sure would be nice to just sit while the dog is exploring and sniffing and chasing balls while we could relax.
We'll check out some of the other recommendations. We don't want to leave the dog at home and also as part of the trip will go on hikes (leashed). Where I grew up we actually had bears nearby so I get that issue. They used to use the trees in our backyard as scratching posts.
