We are in-bounds for Woodlin, but at Sligo Creek for French, so know lots of families at both. If you are switching housing, I would say choose a house/neighborhood that suits your family well... the school experience will likely be largely the same. There are strong parent and PTA communities at both schools. As for administration, there is a new principal at Sligo Creek (who is much better than the last one and so far generally good)... and meantime I've heard about a lot of issues with the Woodlin principal, though you are probably already familiar with that. Woodlin seems to have many more after school clubs, etc, while SCES struggles to pull that off, but there are still options, especially if you have parents willing to help organize. I'm sure the new Woodlin building will be wonderful, and generally better than the aging SCES/SSIMS building (and construction for SSIMS is now not including any facility improvements for SCES to my knowledge). But SCES/SSIMS has some benefits of being a former high school, including a large courtyard where "outdoor classroom" activities are held, a full-size track where Girls on the Run and Let me Run meet for practice, wide hallways, etc so though the building is older there are still some nice features.

Good point. Also Sligo Creek will be partially affected by the construction of SSIMS's new gym/front entrance starting around 2023.

I would stay for Woodlin’s new building. But both are fine. You might look more and middle and high school paths.

We have a kid in the French immersion program at Sligo. It is fantastic.

One thing to consider would be the availability of the Enriched Literacy Curriculum for the 4th grader. Woodlin currently offers it, Sligo Creek not.

Would you stay through MS?

I'd stick with Woodlin, unless there's a reason you are unhappy there. Sligo Creek is well-run with a great PTA, but it's also a school bifurcated by the French Immersion program, which can at times cut into school spirit and neighborhood feel.

We are at Woodlin but could move to Sligo for 4th and 1st grades. Any thoughts?
