What kind of trips have you typically done? What activities do your kids like? Are they the type of activities that your H usually take a lead in? You gotta give us more info here to work with.

Yes, I’m interested in knowing why they prefer to travel with DH as well. That info will shape our responses. My kids would be perfectly happy to travel with just me as DH gets more stressed out by change. Unless the vacation involved a lot of mini-golf, that is. I am not a fan and he loves it.


They just like hanging out with him, and I haven't yet been able to convince them DH will be working, not sitting at home without them. We actually travel fairly well without him, but this shift has got them a bit confused.

Do u have a friend with kids the same age? Can u go with them? If he is in a job where he works weekends there must be coworkers with douses in the sane boat. Not that you can make instant friends but light be worth trying tk get into that network/circle. I work 2 weekends every month and we are friends with other shift working type people.

OP here. We no longer live in DC, and opportunities for children are limited where we are. I don't want them thinking this kind of life is normal, hence the short weekend trips to expose them to other things.

Also, DH will be working weekends, so staying home isn't an option for them.

We're entering a weird period where DH won't be able to travel with us much, and the kids (8 and 11) aren't thrilled about it. How can I make it better for them? We generally do a quick weekend trip once a month, then 2-3 longer ones a year, and they've already started complaining they'd rather stay home. I am subject to mandatory remote work because of covid though, and I need to get out. How do I get them back on board?
