Here’s a review posted about their Cuban sandwich…
“Whenever I come to Cuba De Ayer to eat lunch or dinner I always order “ 2 “ Cuban Sandwiches to take home with me … they are the best !!! There are only two places that I’ll get my Cuban Sandwiches from and that here and Versailles Cuban Restaurant in Miami … just heat them up in the oven the next day slowly and trust me, you’ll be in heaven … Cuba de Ayer makes a delicious Cuban Sandwich …. Sometimes I’ve even eaten 1/2 of the sandwich on the way home because it smells so good that I just can’t resist it… that’s how good they make this sandwich !!!!!”

Real Cuban bread has a flavor to it that adds to the overall deliciousness.
The flavor and seasoning of the roast pork makes a huge difference.
It’s just my personal preference, but I usually swap out the cheese for provolone, so my idea of an awesome Cuban sandwich might not really be a Cuban sandwich. It’s awesome though.

I think the biggest variables are the pork and the bread (now some cheese expert will explain why I'm wrong, which will be totally fair)
I generally don't hold with innovation, but Smokecraft in Arlington makes a "'Cue-bano" that is delicious
