How involved are you with your school and the PTA? I always found it useful to meet new principals at these functions because it gives you a sense of who they are, what their goals are, and an opportunity to share any concerns. My impressions for two different ones were “excellent choice”, and that turned out to be true. A third I felt was “meh” - also true.

Depends on your kid. For my anxious kid, meeting the principal is a great thing.

it is only worth it to get the measure of their smarminess and ineptitude which you'll learn about pretty damned fast anyway once school starts.

I'm not going to do it. The logistics for us would be really difficult and another meeting in a group setting won't do much for my kid's nerves.

I don’t think it’s worth Leaving work early to bring your children to this event. Most children are more concerned about meeting their classroom teacher. They will have many opportunities when school starts to interact with the principal and assistant.

Well, I can leave work early to pick up my ES kid from camp to meet new principal & new assistant principal at one of their hosting event outdoor as an introduction. But, I have nothing to say other than saying hi and I don't think they will remember my kid's faces since there are many kids from the school.
