I’ve had a lot of electrolysis done and have been happy with the results. You can get OTC lidocaine cream or prescription Emla to numb the area before treatment and it’s much less painful (or not painful at all). It does require multiple treatments because they have to treat each hair when it’s in a growth phase, but I like that it’s permanent.

I have had laser hair removal on my whole body. It is not perfect, but a big improvement. My DD is still too young but when the time comes, I will do it.

This is 8:07. A while back I read about this suggestion on here for easy to use hair removal for girls. I bought it for DD and it’s been better than expected. She uses it for her lip and between her eyes and wants to hold off for now on laser or anything painful since it works so well. ^the areas I had lasered were my underarms, chin and around the bikini area. The only place it really keeps coming back is chin but it could be hormonal now.

I have darker skin and had electrolysis when I was in middle school and then lots of laser in various places as an adult. The electrolysis took a lot longer because they only do a little at a time but yes, it was permanent. It was also more painful since it was multiple sessions and each were longer. The electrolysis was my upper lip and between my eyebrows.

It’s hard to know if laser wasn’t as effective because I’m older and hair grows differently with menopause. For my own daughter, I’m going with laser because she wants it done quickly. I have not found a place yet but wanted to share my experience with the two. Both procedures will need multiple sessions as the hair grows back thinner and finer.

If she has dark skin, I think electrolysis would be a better fit, plus it is permanent. Even if the laser doesn’t scar, if her skin is darker, the results would be as good.

For a small area like upper lip you could also consider electrolysis.

I like the threaders too for lip hair removal, but it doesn’t damage the skin, and the women who do it know how to efficiently remove removing excess hair.

If you have darker skin, see someone with lots of experience in treating darker skin. Cultura is headed by a black doctor and they specialize in darker skin tones.

I also have had treatments with one of the strip mall places, with good results, cheaper and better than Cultura, but the tech was black and she had a lot of experience with darker skin tones too.

I’m sure the lasers are better now but you do have to see someone who knows what they are doing because treating darker skin requires more technical skill than treating lighter skin with dark hair.

Not Bethesda, but Capital Laser in Roslyn is excellent and very safe.

For 15yo with dark skin and new upper lip hair. The derm said it would be fine but her practice doesn't do it. I'm worried about scarring and want to go to a good place with the right laser. Can someone recommend one in the Bethesda area? Thank you!
