This was a big setback for sure. My dd was at Bryn Mawr and in full solidarity with the strike - we were not in agreement on this

My sister went there and loved it--great, very tight alumni network. Very small but the consortium helps and tons of kids go away junior year.

My nephew is there and loves it. Beautiful campus, very smart, interesting students.

He also got into Swarthmore but was turned off by the pressure-cooker vibe there. He was there during the strike and wasn't happy about it but has a pretty interesting perspective (i.e., could have happened at most progressive SLACs and the school came through it fine).

My niece is also at Haverford and was a freshman during the strike. Her parents were trying to recruit her older cousins to teach and tutor her in general chemistry since those synchronous classes stopped. Her parents were also extremely upset since they were full pay and their daughter applied ED because she really thought that it was the school for her. She was also ostracized for wanting to attend class and study. They strongly considered transferring, but their daughter did make friends her first year and seems happy enough now.

My DD looked briefly at it when we visited Bryn Mawr. She was really only interested in BMC because she wanted all women’s. Harverford was nice, though. She liked both better than Swarthmore, which felt too intense for her liking.

My niece was there during the fall of 2020. She was marginalized for being an athlete and wanting to attend the classes she paid for. I would never pay for that place.

A Swarthmore grad here - I really like haverford, and hope my DC will be interested in attending. Friends from there all loved it, and I think it’s a great school, with less intensity than Swat.

With the consortium not all courses offered on every campus so your kid might have to take a 30 min shuttle to swathmore for example. Also campus kind of ugly.

Everyone I know who attended loved it, like besotted loved it. Neither of my DCs were interested as both were seeking a slightly larger LAC. Know two great kids headed there this fall for sports.

We did not go there, but my daughter liked it a lot (after tour). Seems like a tight, close community. Somewhat insulated, but there are always other schools nearby as well as Philly which is just a train ride away. My DC also liked the honor code.

Pros - not too far from DMV/ well regarded/pretty campus
Cons - very small - only 1100 students/ultra liberal vibe (I think)/step down from Swarthmore

Would love to hear positive or negative experiences from people with kids there or who went themselves.
