In Maryland phones are not allowed at the polls

No! I did this and the lady at the polls said I had to turn my phone off. She kindly gave me a piece of paper to write down my names.

Not a dumb question at all, and thanks for asking, OP! We brought sample ballots instead, would have made a list in my notes app if not for this thread.

But paper is allowed:

You can bring any printed material - including your marked specimen ballot - to help you vote.

It's a good questions actually. During the 2016 election there was a lot of talk about whether or not you could take pictures inside the voting area. So having your phone out could get questions.

Yeah b/c Justin Timberlake posted a selfie of him voting in Tennessee.

In Montgomery County early voting they told me to write down anything I might need from my phone before I could vote. I was surprised. What’s the issue with looking at a phone?

You aren't really supposed to have your phone out during the voting process though. You can request a paper ballot, if that helps. Everyone is written down there.

Or should I write it on paper? I have voted before, though it's been a while since in person, and I don't remember and feel silly even asking but all my picks are on my phone.
