A land cruiser especially one from the 90s would be awesome but you can always buy an aftermarket snorkel kit for other cars

My 2005 Subaru Forester was undefeated in the snow/mountain driving when I lived in the mountains

There are very few true 4WD’s out there, most are AWD due to gas mileage requirements. If you really want one get a used Landcruiser.

My Subaru does a very steep incline up Shannondale Rd in West Virginia. Both paved and gravel. You also have to know how to drive it right for those conditions.

I need a car that can go up a mountain (25٪ incline) with a trail but not paved and no gravel. Ideally it can ford across a 15 foot wide stream that never gets more than 2 feet deep. I have 2 kids and 2 dogs ( and kayaks but a roof rack can handle that). I currently have a rav4 but it can't handle it.

What are you doing in the mountains? Do you need to cart dogs? Kids? Skis? Tow a boat?
